Purchased the gilt Pepsi and the first one I received had scuffs and dirt on the interior of the watch box, had a faulty crown that wouldn’t engage and the whole dial moved when pulling out the crown. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and asked for a replacement to be sent. The second one had a noisy rotor that could be heard and felt and ran at -20 sec / day. They did ultimately give me a refund but there response was a bit backhanded as they basically said “I’m sorry that you’re sorry” instead of owning their mistakes. They also failed to publish my two star review on their website. Engaging in review censorship is unacceptable. They should stick to make watch straps for other watch brands that actually know how to make watches.

The changes still haven’t grown on me at all. The old one looks like a Monta. The new one looks like a generic microbrand GMT.

The hour markers could be from a Seiko. There’s no mixed finishing, no beveling, nothing. Just flat lume filled blocks. Look at the effort Chris Ward put into the Aquitaine and Dune markers at half the price vs. what you get here. The Formex Reef GMT can track three timezones without looking overly busy, because they have room on the dial thanks to not using a bezel the size of a tire swing. Overall it feels like a half effort and a lot of cost cutting, combined with a nice big fat price hike to add insult to injury. Hard pass. Hard pass on the new OK as well if it also turns out like this.

Great review! Congratulations on giving an honest and fair review of the new Skyquest despite some of the initial criticism. Your review convinced me to pull the trigger and order one.

FYI – You might want to double check the case size dimensions listed (41.7). According to Monta’s website, the case size is 40.7.

While I don’t dislike it, I kind of felt I mostly liked the original better. There are aspects I do like such as bigger markers and such, but the numerals seem a bit cartoon-ish in photos. This is another one I would want to see at a Windup show. The finishing, quick adjust clasp, and all that look amazing and I love that they now have the 56 hour power reserve movements. A caller/office GMT is actually more useful with my office job and global co-workers, so that fits me just fine. Monta has said the new Ocean King will still have a ceramic bezel, which is cool. I can’t wait to see what they come out with for that line. I really would like a Monta, but I’m waiting for that perfect model.

I totally get it. I was NOT into this v2 when those first images came out. As soon as I saw it in person though, it felt like everything made sense.

I own a V1 and love it, and when I saw the new V2 I was initially massively disappointed. No ceramic, no lumed pip, no stepped GMT hand, no inner lug chamfers, etc made it look as though it was a downgrade, sad perhaps it is if you look at sheer specs. But I think this new V2 sheds the ‘dress diver/flyer’ look in favor of a very solid tool watch that is more function over frills. Now that I have kind of gotten over what it’s lost I think I am really liking the changes. It won’t make me trade in my V1, which of you can get second hand I would recomend over this new V2, but if they make an Ocean King Diver with this same layout it will undoubtedly find its way into my watch roll.
